Granada

I had long planned to visit this amazing city, and finding ourselves with a week between Spanish roads wide and emptysits, it was time. We drove directly here from our sit in Javea, taking new as well as familiar roads. We have given up taking the back roads when doing the long trips – motorways here are very good and sometimes we take the toll roads which cut even more time off the journey.

Our (budget) hotel was a welcome respite from the heat of over 40°C with an airconditioned room. It was walking distance to almost everywhere we wanted to go. Day one of our time here was devoted to a cycle tour of the city; e-bikes as the terrain was quite hilly but we got some fantastic vistas over the town, the Albaycin and the Alhambra. Chris chose to ride the hills without the power assist but I was very thankful it was there.

After completing the cycle tour, we had some idea of our bearings and spent the afternoon wandering the narrow streets.

Chris had been concerned about his bike rides from the centre of Granada – but each morning he managed to head off to the underground car park and assemble his bike and head to the hills, spying lakes and the occasional riding group in the cool before the sun really hit.

Our final day, we braved the heat again, up to 44 degrees at one stage, but thankfully not muggy with it. The cathedral was magnificent.

That evening we went to a Flamenco show, where the star was actually the guitarist rather than the dancers. two dancers, a singer and the guitarist
